Bethan Gray, winner of the Best British Designer Award 2013, is delighted to announce a pop-up shop at Harrods during London Design Festival 2014. The collection on display will feature a series of exclusive products, alongside some of Bethan Gray’s most popular pieces from her award-winning studio.
The new Carve furniture collection, which has been adapted from Bethan Gray’s existing G&T Carve collection of occasional tables, will take centre stage. With a marble-topped dining table and a wooden base the Carve dining table combines Bethan Gray’s signature use of high-quality, hand-selected natural materials with detailed production techniques, to produce contemporary yet timeless designs. The table is perfectly proportioned to complement the new Carve dining chair which is also crafted from solid oak, combined with beautiful leather hides. The Carve console table and desk are both generously proportioned, featuring a hand-polished solid marble top, solid wooden base and elegantly turned legs.
Also exclusive to Harrods is an exquisite range of Stud mirrors. Taking inspiration from the studwork traditionally found on Asian and Arabic doors, the Stud mirrors feature a leather strip around the rim onto which brass or nickel studs have been carefully applied by hand. This process of studding was originally used to join two materials together, but here it has been used to a gloriously decorative effect. The studs are applied to the inner side of the mirror, so they are reflected to produce a striking double-stud effect.
Bethan Gray’s pop-up at Harrods will also include a plain back version of the new Ella sofa, a collaboration between Bethan Gray and British furniture manufacturer WorkHouse. Designed for both public and private spaces, the curvaceous design cleverly bridges the gap between classic lines and modern styling.
In addition to Ella, the recently launched tabletop accessories collection, Alice, will also be on show. Comprising of a black and white chopping board in a herringbone and stripy design, cheese board and clear glass cheese dome, the Alice collection takes its design inspiration from historical buildings across Europe, and uses black and white marble to achieve a monochrome contrast.
Visitors to the pop-up shop will also have the opportunity to view a range of classic designs from the Bethan Gray collection, including the Brogue and Leather & Brass Brogue Tables.
Bethan Gray comments: ‘I’m thrilled to have my designs in Harrods and to be part of it’s ‘Design Trail’ for the festival. Working on exclusive designs for this most iconic of stores has allowed me to continue my passion for using luxury materials in intriguing and seductive combinations. I have paired traditional craft techniques with modern production methods to deliver timeless designs which are perfectly in tune with what the Harrods customer is looking for.’
Annalise Fard, Director of Home at Harrods comments: ‘We’re absolutely delighted to be welcoming Bethan’s new pop-up to Harrods. As part of our London Design Festival ‘Design Trail’ we wanted to support up-and–coming talent as well as work with established brands and designers’.
‘Bethan’s work is elegant and chic and perfectly compliments the other brands and collaborations we have on the third floor furniture department here at Harrods.’
