February 18, 2018

Monographic exhibition “Oïphorie”: In 2018, atelier oï is invited to tell the story of its 27 years of creative itinerary through three important axes; two national and international exhibitions,in the Museum für Gestaltung Zürich and in the Museu da Casa Brasileira in São Paulo, as well as a publication edited by Lars Müller Publishers will be on display. atelier oï in La Neuveville is honoured to present three monographic projects for the year to come – three external perspectives on it work. In order to relate its creative process based on the manipulation of materials and on the transversality of disciplines, it is with an invitation by the Museum für Gestaltung Zürich that the story begins this upcoming month. The exhibition Oïphorie, over a period of 7 months, will be immersing the visitor in 27 years of atelier oï’s creative process, along with important installations and prototypes never showcased before.

The adventure continues with the publication intended also for the beginning of March of a book edited by Lars Müller Publishers, unveiling the work behind the scenes of the atelier. The intervention of numerous guests punctuate the reading and intersperse the different views upon the taken road of atelier oï – and the one still to come. How Life Unfolds lives up to its name. Finally, and in an intercontinental dimension this time, it will be in August in the wide spaces of the Museu da Casa Brasileira, a unique location in São Paulo dedicated to design and architecture, that atelier oï’s specific approach to the materials will be demonstrated. The focus of the exhibition Handmade Industry will be set on the material know-how combined with design and culture.

The Museum für Gestaltung Zürich presents the exhibition “Oïphorie”, retracing atelier oï from 1991 to 2018. atelier oï in La Neuveville is glad to invite you to come and explore the exhibition Oïphorie, illustrating 27 years of its creative process. It will be held from March 3rd and until September 30th 2018 at the Museum für Gestaltung Zürich, reference point for Swiss design. The exhibition will crown the reopening of the museum, after three years of renovation works on the building dating from 1933. The refurbishment reveals the architecture of origin, where the proportions have radically transformed the previous museum space.

atelier oï, in tight collaboration with the Museum für Gestaltung Zürich, has invested over a year of reflection on the monographic exhibition project Oïphorie, covering a surface of over 900m². An important part of the work has been the selection among the numerous creations, realised in very varied contexts, as well for luxury brands as for cultural projects. The red thread of the exhibition tends therefore to first of all talk about the design process, from the manipulation of the material to the prototype and up until the finished product. Chapters divided into materiality categories present a large range of exclusive discoveries behind the scenes.

atelier oï realised new installations made to measure for the exhibition. The visit is therefore punctuated by three important scenographies, at times inmmovement or sensory, unfolding in the center and in the new heights of the museum. They also invite the visitor to live a moment of experiences, in a play of materials and lights of warm and cool shades. atelier oï talks about its multiple encounters with brands of different fields and with the manufacturers and their know-how, thus inviting you in a tactile, olfactory and instinctive moment all at once. The public opening is planned for the March 2nd 2018 from 7 pm.

On 2 and 3 March the Museum für Gestaltung Zürich will open the doors to its main building on Ausstellungsstrasse 60 in Zurich again. After renovation work lasting three years this listed building, a key work of the “Neues Bauen” movement in Switzerland, now gleams with a new splendor and with its original dignity. The new rooms offer a variety of different facets of design and visual communication: they include the hall, its two-story character now restored, where the opening show features the work of atelier oï, the design studio from Western Switzerland, as well as the new Swiss Design Lounge, the generous atelier for education and its workshops, the expanded shop area and the established café. And, for the first time ever, more than 2000 highlights from the collection, which is now around 150 years old, are on permanent display and await discovery.
