For client Levy Restaurants, SHH re-branded and refurbished the hospitality area at Sandown Park Racecourse, creating ‘Equus’: a buzzing new high-quality bar and restaurant. The space needed finesse at every level to achieve an overall champagne bar feel and also had to be flexible enough to attract premium quality events and conferences on non-race days.

High material quality (from leather saddle-stitching details on the front of the bar to the carrera marble bartop), along with subtle branding and signage, communicate upmarket intent from the moment race-goers arrive. The board of trustees said the new design had made ‘a remarkable difference’ and given the space a ‘west end feel’, which perfectly hit the target of creating the look and atmosphere of a standalone bar/restaurant.
